iTunes Music Store almost always had a feature Complete My Album, that allows in a single click buy all tracks that you don't have already from a certain album. I always thought that Steam needs a similar feature for packs and DLCs. There are games that have so many DLCs you need time to check what you already own. So as proof of concept I made this userscript.

Dota 2

There is a funny situation with Dota 2 invites lately: many people simply cannot obtain an invite while others don't know how to give away thiers 10 or more invites. My friend DrKoljan made a bot (based on his excellent libraries for node.js), that should simplify an invite distribution.

So, how to get invite to Dota 2 automatically (you'll need a Steam account with at least one game on it)

  1. Add Dota 2 Dispenser to your friends.

  2. Chat to bot saying exactly give dota and you'll get Dota 2 as a gift.

  3. Accept the gift and choose Add to library. That's all, now you can install it from your games list and play.

If you don't have a Steam account

Newly created Steam accounts are somewhat limited you won't be able to add friends, so getting invite from the bot is impossible. But there are other ways to get an invite.

Either way you'll need to install and sign up to Steam. Get Steam

  1. Buy any game on Steam, there are many cheap games. Right after purchasing you'll be able to add Dota 2 Dispenser to your friends and get an invite from it. Moreover, there are resources such as Humble Bundle, Indie Royale, and Groupees that often offer many Steam games in bundles for low price.

  2. Find a promo, where you can get a Steam key for free. One of the latest is an Alienware keys giveaway of Transcripted demo. (Step by step instructions video). After the key activation you will be able to add the bot.

  3. You can get an invite from me. Create a Steam Community profile and leave a comment with the link to your profile here. You must sign in using disqus, twitter, Facebook, or Google+ or your comment will be ignored.

A new version of my userscript to show cover images in anime and manga lists on MyAnimeList.net.

Install (you can find a howto below)

New features:

  • A "lazy load": the script now loads only images that you can see at the moment and loads others on scroll.

  • A new appearance setting: a cover image will be shown after clicking on a 'More' link. You can enable it using small switcher in your list footer.

I've wanted to do this for a while now and finally I made it, a calendar for the new TV anime season. I wasn't able to find an appropriate hi-res cover image for some titles so the calendar is in 'beta' for now. Check out the final version in two weeks or so.

Spring 2012 TV Anime Calendar

In last few weeks I've seen two anime movies right away (haven't seen an anime for a while): Ghost in the Shell (directed by Mamoru Oshii) and Howl's Moving Castle (directed by Hayao Miyazaki). Both movies have been recorded from a TV almost two years ago and waited all this time for a chance of being watched. Both movies are great and difficult in their own ways. Ghost in the Shell presents us with many interesting layers of dystopia, cyberpunk, and action with a subtle phylosophy, when Howl's Moving Castle is a crazy mix of very different genres. I'll write about the latter some other time, now is the time for...
